Robo-Mouth Will Make You Scream and Give You Nightmares
By Luis Prada
Out of all of the terrible things science currently working on, robo-mouth has to be the most disturbing. I want to say a lot more about it, but if you don’t feel what I’m talking about it just won’t connect with you emotionally. You see, both you and I need to be in a state of intense psychological trauma to hold any kind of conversation about the robo-mouth. I’m already feeling the trauma, now it’s your turn.
Watch the video after the jump.
Yeah, so you’ve probably watched it by now. Don’t worry, the violent shaking of your extremities and your rapid heart rate will both calm down in a few seconds.
Now, let’s have a thoughtful discussion about the robo-mouth: AHHHHHH! WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT SHIT?!
I’ve been trying to come up with a logical explanation for this thing’s existence and the only thing I can find somewhat plausible is it’s a prototype for a robot that can communicate with humans in a realistic manner, like the human-looking Cylons in BattleStar Galactica. But my overactive and paranoid imagination has gotten the better of me, and I’m dreaming up all sorts of insane things this thing is. I think this thing might be…
- A talking vagina
- A dying calf with its throat hooked up to a male sex toy
- A vacuum cleaner designed by David Lynch
- A robot that went sentient, and this is footage of the scientists that created it trying to kill it
- The first semi-successful clone of Angelina Jolie’s lips
- The physical manifestation of your worst nightmare
- The mouth of Hell from which demons will pour out at any moment
- The child of a human male and an engine bloc

I'm pretty sure they're trying to replicate the noises made by your throat, vocal chords, and mouth in order to create a realistic sounding artificial speaking voice.
If not that, then yea it's totally the vagina thing.

This is more than likely a development from waseda university in Japan. They are fascinated with recreating the articulatory conditions of speech sounds. Check out this video of the waseda head . The creepiness of the sounds they make is a testament to how complex a mechanical process speech really is. In the video I linked, the head is pronouncing vowels "a e i o u"
