If the average American eats 36.750 lbs of food in a lifetime, but only expels 6,734 lbs of feces, that leaves a 30,016 lbs difference.
I know America has an obesity problem, but I'm sure they don't weigh THAT much.
Can someone please explain?

Well, your body does require a lot of energy to function (your brain is running on about 20 watts or so of electricity, I believe). So most of the food itself gets burned up and converted into whatever chemicals, enzymes, proteins, and whatever, that your body needs. Yes, a lot does get converted to fat, muscle mass, water weight, and the like, but much of it? Into the biochemical furnace that is the human body it goes.
